National, state, and local governments offer an array of incentives to preserve historic Landmarks. These include a 20% federal income tax credit for rehabilitation of the property, local property tax exemptions for the increased value of the structure, and state and local grants. Each of these incentives has different provisions in order to qualify. In general, all incentives should be applied for after the property is made a historic Landmark, and before the property owner begins rehabilitation.

Additionally, Landmark properties may be eligible for Special Public Interest zoning that encourages uses such as a bed & breakfast, antique shop, book store, or café in residential areas.
