Citizen Boards Support Staff Representative: Mike Stevenson

Wellhead and Surface Water Resource Protection

In June 2004, the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners adopted an amendment to the Comprehensive Plan and to the Land Development Code that updates the wellhead regulations, adds surface water protection, and adopts the protections required in FAC 9J-5 for protection of public water wells under Florida Department of Environmental Protection rules. The effective date of the regulations is October 1, 2004.

Land & Water Linkage Projects

Hillsborough County, in cooperation with the Southwest Florida Water Management District, has embarked on citizen-based strategic planning projects with the goal of providing better coordination (linkage) between land use and water planning. The objective is to develop citizen-based strategies, action plans, projects and priorities to address water supply, water quality, flood control, natural system protection and growth management issues within defined study areas.
